Back Up App Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
  4. To back up Wi-Fi passwords, settings, and account data to your Google account, enable “Back up my data”
  5. To allow your account to restore data automatically upon the next sign in, turn on “Automatic restore”

Back Up Contacts to Storage:

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Under “Device”, tap “Applications”
  3. Tap “Contacts” > “Import / Export contacts”
  4. Select “Export”
  5. Choose to export the contacts on “Storage” or “SD card”
  6. Remember the file name for future use and tap “OK” to confirm

Back Up Contacts on a Google Account:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “Accounts”
  3. Select the type of account (Google) and tap your account
  4. Ensure “Contacts” is checked
  5. Tap “More” > “Sync now”

Back Up Media Files

On the SD Card:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “My Files”
  3. Under “Local storage” select “Device storage”
  4. Tap “More” > “Edit”
  5. Locate the desired media files and select their check boxes
  6. Tap “More” > “Copy”
  7. Select “SD card”
  8. Tap “Create folder” or navigate to, and select the desired destination folder
  9. Tap “Paste here”

On a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect the Galaxy A7 to your PC via USB
  2. Swipe the “Status” bar down and enable “Media device (MTP)”
  3. Open the File Explorer on the computer
  4. Locate the media files on your phone and copy them
  5. Paste the media files in the desired backup location on the computer
  6. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and disconnect the device from the USB

On a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 2 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit Kies Support, and click “Kies 3 for Mac” to download and install Kies on the Mac
  3. Establish a USB connection between the Mac and Galaxy device
  4. On the phone, swipe the “Status” bar down and make sure “Media device (MTP)” is turned on
  5. Open Kies on the Mac and click the “Back up / restore” tab
  6. Click the “Backup” tab and select “Photos”, “Music”, and other media file categories you want to back up
  7. Click “Backup”
  8. After the backup process ends, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop into the “Trash can” to eject it
  9. It’s now safe to disconnect the phone from the USB
