WARNING! Master resetting the phone will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the devices internal memory, including applications, contacts, downloaded content, media files and ringtones etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.
NOTE: Before factory resetting the phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore data on the Samsung Galaxy S7.
Master Reset via Settings:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Backup and reset
- Optionally, enable or disable Back up my data and Restore
- Tap Factory data reset > Reset device
- In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password or PIN to proceed
- Tap Continue > Delete all to confirm
Master Reset via Recovery (Hardware Buttons):
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise doesnt allow you to reset it via Settings, you can try resetting the device from the recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.
- First, turn off the device
- Next, press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power at the same time
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- When the Android logo appears, release Volume Up and Home. (NOTE: The device might take 30-60 seconds to show the Android system recovery menu)
- From the recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Yes delete all user data
- Press Power to confirm
- Wait for the reset to complete, and once done, Reboot system now should be highlighted
- Press Power to confirm and reboot your phone
Check for Firmware Updates:
NOTE: After factory resetting your phone, its recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to, and tap About device
- Check the software version, and follow the on-screen prompts to download and install an update if applicable
