Clear App Cache / Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps doesnt work as intended, crashes, freezes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you might be able to fix these problems by clearing the applications cache / data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, the personal information stored within the application will be lost, including profiles, login and credit card details, high scores, saved games, settings etc. To avoid losing this information, try fixing the app by clearing only its cache.
- Open the Settings menu
- Scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Go to Application manager
- Swipe to Downloaded or All
- Select the desired application and tap Clear cache
- If necessary, tap Clear data > OK (note the WARNING above)
Reboot in Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes problems and doesnt allow you to remove it, you should be able to uninstall the application from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled. To access Safe Mode:
- First, turn off the phone
- Next, press and hold Power
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Keep holding Volume Down until the phone finishes restarting. It should display a Safe Mode label in the lower-left corner of the home screen
- Access the phones Settings menu
- Scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Tap Application manager
- Go to Downloaded and select the app you want to remove
- Tap Uninstall twice to confirm
- To exit safe mode after the app has been removed, press and hold Power and tap Restart
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone doesnt work as intended (crashes, freezes etc.) and youre considering resetting it, you may want to try and clear the devices cache partition first. Doing so can have similar effects as a factory reset, without losing any of your personal data on the device. To clear the cache:
- Turn off the phone if necessary
- Press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power at the same time
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power
- At the Android logo, release the other two hardware keys as well
- Wait for access to the Recovery menu (may take up to 60 seconds)
- Once in the Android System Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to confirm
- Once the cache partition is wiped, Reboot system now will be highlighted
- Press Power to confirm and reboot your device
NOTE: If the issues havent been fixed after clearing the cache partition, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can factory reset the phone instead.
