WARNING! By factory resetting your phone, all personal data stored on the devices internal memory will be deleted. This includes applications, contacts, downloaded content, ringtones etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be deleted during the factory reset. Before resetting the phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can back up and restore data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup and reset
- Optionally, enable or disable Back up my data and Restore
- Tap Factory data reset > Reset device
- In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password / PIN to proceed and tap Continue
- Tap Delete all to confirm
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise doesnt allow you to reset it via Settings, you can try resetting the device from the Android System Recovery menu instead. The menu can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses as follows:
- First, make sure the phone is powered off
- Next, press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up at the same time
- When the Samsung logo appears, release the Power key
- At the Android logo, release Volume Up and Home too
- Wait for the Recovery menu to show up (it may take up to 60 seconds)
- From the Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Yes delete all user data and press Power to confirm
- After the phone finishes the reset, Reboot system now will be highlighted
- Press Power again to confirm and restart your phone
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After you factory reset your phone, its recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About device
- Verify the software and if a new update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
