Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Contacts”
  3. Tap “More” > “Settings”
  4. If you wish to save phone contacts to your Samsung or Google account before the sync, tap “move device contacts to”
  5. Return to “Settings” and tap “Accounts”
  6. Select an account
  7. Tap “More” > “Sync now”

NOTE: Contacts backed up on a Samsung or Google account will be automatically restored the next time you sign in with the respective account.

Back Up App Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords to your account
  5. Turn on “Automatic Restore” to allow app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your backup account

Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Open the Internet browser on the PC
  2. Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
  3. Click “Samsung Smart Switch for PC”
  4. Install the app on your PC and connect the Samsung device to the computer
  5. At the pop-up, enable “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)” on the phone, otherwise enable the option from the “Notification” area
  6. Launch “Smart Switch” on the computer
  7. Open the File Explorer and locate the media files on your phone
  8. Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the PC
  9. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray
  10. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB

Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:

  1. Follow the first 6 steps above
  2. Open the File Explorer on the PC and locate the media file backups
  3. Copy the files and transfer them in the “Media” directory on the phone
  4. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect it from the USB cord

Back Up Media Files on a Mac:

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit Kies Support and click “Kies 3 for Mac”
  3. Install Kies on the Mac and connect the Samsung phone via USB
  4. At the prompt, enable “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)”, or enable the option from the “Notification” area
  5. Launch Kies on the Mac and access the “Back up / restore” tab
  6. Click the “Backup” tab and select “Photo”, “Music”, and other media file types you want to back up
  7. Click “Backup”
  8. Once the backup is done, drag the phone’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it in the “Trash can” to eject
  9. You can safely disconnect the phone from the USB

Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:

  1. Follow the first 4 steps above
  2. Open Kies on the Mac and go to “Back up / restore”
  3. Click “Restore” and enable “Photos”, “Music”, and any other types of media files you want to restore
  4. Click “Restore” and, if necessary, follow any additional pop-ups to complete the process
  5. Once the process is complete, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop into the “trash can”
  6. You can now safely disconnect the handset from the USB
