Clear App Data / Cache:
NOTE: If one of your applications doesnt work as intended, crashes, freezes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache and / or data.
WARNING! When you clear an applications data, all personal information stored within the app will be deleted. This includes profiles, settings, save files, high scores, login and credit card information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open the apps drawer
- Access Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Applications > Application manager
- Swipe to All or Downloaded
- Select the desired application
- Tap Clear cache
- If clearing the cache didnt solve the problem, tap Clear data > OK (check WARNING above)
Wipe the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and youre considering factory resetting the device, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phones cache partition instead. This can yield similar results to a factory reset, without losing any personal data on the phones internal memory.
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold Power, Volume Up and Home at the same time
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- At the Android screen, release Volume Up and Home too
- Once in the Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to confirm
- After the cache has been cleared, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the problems with your device, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an Application:
NOTE: If you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn the phone Off
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone finishes rebooting, release all buttons (NOTE: a Safe Mode label should be shown in the lower-left corner of the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Tap Application manager and go to Downloaded
- Select the application you want to remove
- Tap Uninstall two times to confirm and uninstall the application
- Once done, exit Safe Mode. Press and hold Power and tap Reboot
