Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing this behavior by clearing the app’s cache and/or data.

WARNING! Clearing an app’s data will result in the deletion of all your personal data stored within the app, including credit card and login information, high scores, settings, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “Applications”
  3. Select the desired application and access “Storage”
  4. Tap “Clear cache”
  5. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check WARNING above)

Wipe the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing the problems by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can yield results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data in the process.

  1. First turn the phone OFF
  2. Next, press and hold “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time, then press and hold “Power”
  3. At the device logo, release “Power”
  4. At the “Android” logo, release all buttons
  5. From the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly until you highlight “wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes” and press “Power”
  8. After the cache partition is wiped, highlight “Reboot system now” if necessary
  9. Press “Power” one last time to reboot your device

NOTE: If clearing the phone’s cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power” past the device name screen
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Keep the volume button pressed until the phone finishes rebooting. A “Safe Mode” label should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first go to “Settings”
  6. Next tap “Applications”
  7. Select the desired app
  8. Tap “Uninstall” twice to confirm
  9. To exit Safe Mode, simply reboot your phone as you would do normally
