Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: In case one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app including save files, credit card and login information, user profiles, settings etc. will be deleted. To avoid losing any personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Tap apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Applications
- Go to Application Manager
- Swipe to Downloaded or All
- Select the desired application
- Tap Clear cache
- If clearing the cache didnt help, tap Clear data > OK to confirm (check WARNING above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your smartphone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing the issues by clearing the phones cache partition. This can have similar results to a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the phones internal memory.
- If necessary, turn the phone OFF
- Press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up at the same time
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- When the Android logo pops-up, release Home and Volume Up as well
- In the Android System Recovery menu, press volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to confirm
- After the cache is cleared, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the Samsung device.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from within Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, all third party apps are disabled by default. To reboot into Safe Mode:
- Turn the phone OFF if necessary
- Press and hold Power
- When the Samsung logo appears, release Power and quickly press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone reboots, release Volume down too. NOTE: a Safe Mode watermark should be shown in the lower-left area of the home screen
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Applications and go to Application manager
- Access Downloaded and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall twice to confirm and remove the app
- After removing the app, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your phone as you would do normally.
