Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: In case one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app – including save files, credit card and login information, user profiles, settings etc. will be deleted. To avoid losing any personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Tap “apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications”
  4. Go to “Application Manager”
  5. Swipe to “Downloaded” or “All”
  6. Select the desired application
  7. Tap “Clear cache”
  8. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” to confirm (check WARNING above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your smartphone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing the issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have similar results to a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory.

  1. If necessary, turn the phone OFF
  2. Press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power”
  4. When the “Android” logo pops-up, release “Home” and “Volume Up” as well
  5. In the Android System Recovery menu, press “volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to confirm
  7. After the cache is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the Samsung device.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from within Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, all third party apps are disabled by default. To reboot into Safe Mode:

  1. Turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power” and quickly press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Once the phone reboots, release “Volume down” too. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” watermark should be shown in the lower-left area of the home screen
  5. Open the apps drawer
  6. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  7. Tap “Applications” and go to “Application manager”
  8. Access “Downloaded” and select the desired app
  9. Tap “Uninstall” twice to confirm and remove the app
  10. After removing the app, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your phone as you would do normally.
