WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all data on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted, including contacts, ringtones and media files, apps, downloaded content etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you factory reset your device, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up and restore personal data on the Samsung device.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the apps drawer and launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup and reset
  3. Optionally, turn “Back up my data” and “Restore” ON or OFF
  4. Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device
  5. If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password/PIN and tap “Continue” to proceed
  6. Tap “Delete all” to confirm

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or is otherwise preventing you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Android Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing the following:

  1. First make sure the phone is powered OFF
  2. Next, press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” logo release “Power
  4. Release “Volume Up” and “Home” at the “Android” logo
  5. Once in Android Recovery, navigate the menu by pressing “Volume down” repeatedly
  6. Navigate to and highlight “wipe data/factory reset
  7. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  8. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes – delete all user data” and press “Power” to confirm
  9. Once the device is reset, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: Once you’ve factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to check for new OS updates:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to and access “About device
  3. Check if a new update is available, and if applicable follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply available updates. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
