Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: In case one of your applications freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! Clearing an apps data will result in the deletion of all your personal data stored within the app, including login and credit card information, high scores, settings, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap Applications
- Select the desired app and go to Storage
- Tap Clear cache
- If clearing the cache didnt help, tap Clear data > OK to confirm
Clear the Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, alternatively you can try fixing these problems by clearing the phones cache partition. This can give similar results to a factory reset without losing any personal data.
- Ensure the phone is powered OFF
- Then, press and hold Home and Volume Up at the same time, and immediately press and hold Power as well
- When the device logo appears, release Power
- Release Home and Volume Up at the Android screen
- Once in Android Recovery, press volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Yes and then press Power to confirm
- Once the cache partition is cleared, highlight Reboot system now and press Power to confirm
NOTE: In case clearing the cache partition didnt solve the issues, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.
- If necessary, turn the phone OFF
- Press and hold Power past the device name screen
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Wait for the phone to reboot and then release the volume key. NOTE: a Safe Mode label should be shown in the lower-left area of the home screen
- To uninstall an app, first access Settings
- Then tap Applications and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall two times to confirm
- To exit Safe Mode, simply power-cycle your phone as you would normally do. Press and hold Power on the home screen and then tap Restart/Power OFF
