NOTE: For instructions on how you can back up app data, contacts, and media files on the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017), visit this thread.
Restore Contacts from an SD Card Backup:
- Open Contacts
- Tap Menu
- Go to Settings
- If necessary, tap Contacts to display > All contacts
- Tap Import / Export contacts > Import from SD Card
- If necessary, select the backup file you want to restore
- Tap OK
Restore Media Files from SD Storage:
- Launch My Files
- Tap SD Card > Menu
- Tap Edit
- Tick the check boxes associated with the media files you want to restore
- Tap Menu > Move
- Tap Internal storage > Move here, or move the files to a different location by tapping the folder name or Create folder
Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
- Enable File Transfer / Media device when prompted or from the Notification area
- Open the File Explorer on the computer
- Locate the media file backups on the PC storage
- Copy and paste the files back to the phone storage, preferably in the Media folder or the directory of origin
- After the transfer completes, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
- Enable Media device / File Transfer when prompted or from the Notification area
- Open Kies on the Mac and click the Back up / restore tab
- Go to Restore and tick the check boxes associated with Music, Photos and other file types you want to restore
- Click Restore and if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
- Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the trash can
