Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications doesn’t work as intended, freezes, crashes or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache and/or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes settings, save files, high scores, user profiles, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Tap “Apps”
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Go to “Storage”
  6. Tap “Clear cache” to clear the app’s cache
  7. If clearing the app’s cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check WARNING above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try solving these issues by wiping the phone’s cache partition. This can have similar results to a factory reset without losing any personal data.

  1. Turn the phone Off if necessary
  2. Next, press and hold “Volume Up” and “Home” at the same time, then press “Power”
  3. At the “Android” logo, release all buttons and wait up to 1 minute for the Recovery screen
  4. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “Wipe data / factory reset”
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Press “Volume down” to highlight “wipe cache partition”
  7. Press “Power”
  8. Highlight “Yes” and press “Power” again to confirm
  9. After the cache partition is wiped, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issues, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you can try uninstalling the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. If necessary, turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Power” past the model screen
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Wait for the phone to reboot and release the volume key. NOTE: once the phone reboots, it should display a “Safe Mode” label in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first open “Settings”
  6. Next go to “Apps” and select the desired application
  7. Tap “Uninstall” to confirm
  8. To exit Safe Mode, press and hold “Power” and tap “Restart”
