WARNING! When you factory reset the phone, all your personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted, including media files, downloads, contacts, etc. Additionally, settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before factory resetting the device, you can check this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on restoring data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and access “Backup and reset”
  3. Optionally, turn “Back up my data” and “Restore” ON
  4. When ready, tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device”
  5. If the device is lock screen-protected, enter the PIN/password etc. to proceed
  6. Tap “Delete all” > “Reset device” to confirm

Factory Reset via System Recovery:

NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, runs out of storage or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can reset the phone from the Android System Recovery menu. To do this:

  1. Turn the phone off
  2. Then, press and hold “Power”, “Volume Up” and “Home” at the same time
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power”
  4. At the “Android” screen, release “Volume Up” and “Home” as well
  5. From the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
  6. Press “power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “yes – delete all user data” and press “Power” to confirm

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your device it’s recommended to check if new updates are available for download.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll down to and tap “About device”
  3. Check if a new update is available and follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
