WARNING! When you factory reset the phone, all your personal data stored on the phones internal memory will be deleted, including media files, downloads, contacts, etc. Additionally, settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Before factory resetting the device, you can check this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on restoring data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal and access Backup and reset
- Optionally, turn Back up my data and Restore ON
- When ready, tap Factory data reset > Reset device
- If the device is lock screen-protected, enter the PIN/password etc. to proceed
- Tap Delete all > Reset device to confirm
Factory Reset via System Recovery:
NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, runs out of storage or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can reset the phone from the Android System Recovery menu. To do this:
- Turn the phone off
- Then, press and hold Power, Volume Up and Home at the same time
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- At the Android screen, release Volume Up and Home as well
- From the Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight yes delete all user data and press Power to confirm
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After you factory reset your device its recommended to check if new updates are available for download.
- Open Settings
- Scroll down to and tap About device
- Check if a new update is available and follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
