Clear App Data/Cache:

NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles, save files, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Applications”
  2. Tap “Application manager”
  3. Access “All” or “Downloaded”
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Clear cache”
  5. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as indented and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can attempt to fix these issues by clearing the cache partition. This can lead to results similar to a factory reset, without losing any personal data stored on the phone.

  1. Turn the device off
  2. Next, press and hold “Power”, ‘Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. At the Samsung screen ,release “Power”
  4. At the Android screen, release the other buttons as well
  5. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly until you highlight “wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Once done, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

NOTE: if clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: In case one of your third-party apps causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you can uninstall the app from within Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot in Safe Mode:

  1. First turn the phone off
  2. Then press and hold “Power”
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and then immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Once the phone reboots, release all the buttons. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the screen
  5. To uninstall an app, go to “Settings”
  6. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications’
  7. Go to “Application manager” > “Downloaded’
  8. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall”
  9. After removing the app, you can exit Safe Mode by simply rebooting the device as you would do normally
