Back Up App Data:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and access “Cloud and accounts”
  3. Tap “Backup & restore”
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, settings, and passwords to your backup account
  5. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow app data, settings, and passwords to be restored automatically when reinstalling apps or signing in with the backup account

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Open “Settings” and access “Cloud and accounts”
  2. Go to “Accounts”
  3. Select an account to use for contact syncing
  4. When ready, tap “Menu” > “Sync Now”

Back Up Contacts to SD Storage:

  1. Launch “Contacts”
  2. Tap “Menu”
  3. Go to “Settings” and if necessary, switch to “All contacts”
  4. Tap “Import/Export contacts”
  5. Tap “Export to SD” > “OK”

Back Up Media Files on the Phone Storage:

  1. Open “My Files”
  2. Access “Internal storage”
  3. Tap “Menu” > “Share”
  4. Select the desired contacts to back up and tap “Share” again
  5. Lastly select a backup location

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Android phone to the computer via USB
  2. On the phone, enable “Media device” / “File transfer” when prompted or from the Notification area
  3. Open the File Explorer on the computer
  4. Locate and copy the media files on the phone storage
  5. Paste the files to the desired backup location on the computer
  6. Once the transfer completes, you can safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies
  3. Click “Download for Mac” and install the app on the computer
  4. Next, connect the Android phone to the Mac via USB
  5. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” on the phone, either when prompted or from the Notification area
  6. Open Kies on the Mac and access “Back up / Restore”
  7. Go to the “Backup” tab and tick the boxes associated with “Photos”, “Music” and other media file types you want to back up
  8. Click “Backup” to start the process
  9. Once the process completes, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the “trash can”
  10. Safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
