Clear an Apps Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try solving these issues by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including profiles and login information, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Launch Settings
- Go to Apps
- Select the desired app and go to Storage > Clear cache
- If clearing the app cache didnt help, tap Clear data (check WARNING above)
Wipe the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try resetting the phones cache partition instead. This can have similar results to a factory reset without the loss of personal data stored on the device.
- Ensure the phone is powered Off
- Press and hold Volume Up and Home at the same time, then press and release Power
- At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
- Once in Recovery, press volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight Wipe data/factory reset
- Press Power to select the option
- Highlight Wipe cache partition and press power
- Highlight Yes and press Power to confirm
- Once done, highlight Reboot system now and press Power one last time
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode. In this mode, all third-party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn the phone Off if necessary
- Then, press and hold Power
- At the Samsung screen, release Power and quickly press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone finishes rebooting, release the buttons. A Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
- To uninstall an app, first open Settings
- Go to Apps and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall
- To exit Safe Mode, reboot your device as you would do normally
