Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up more storage than it should or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try solving these problems by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! By clearing an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes user profiles, personalized settings, high scores, login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Launch Settings
- Go to Apps
- Select the desired app
- Tap Storage > Clear data > OK
- If clearing the app data didnt help, tap Clear cache (check the WARNING above)
Wipe the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try solving these issues by clearing the phones cache partition. This can lead to results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the phone.
- Turn the phone Off
- Press and hold Volume Up and the Bixby/Home button and then press and hold Power
- At the Android logo, release the buttons and wait for up to a minute for the Android system recovery menu
- Once in Recovery, press volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the option
- Highlight Yes using the volume down button and press Power to confirm
- After the cache partition is wiped, ensure Reboot system now is highlighted
- Press Power again to confirm
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the issues you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default.
- Turn the phone off if necessary
- Then press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Wait for the phone to finish restarting and then release the volume key. Note that a Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
- Next to remove an app, first open Settings
- Tap Apps and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall two times to confirm
- To exit Safe Mode, reboot your phone as you would do normally
