Re: Samsung u420: Did I just buy a very sexy peice of crap?

Nevermind. I bought one of the 420 cables. I borrowed my friends Blackjack cable, installed the correct driver and BitPim and followed the directions here...now I have new wallpaper and ringtones! Thanks a million!

Has anyone had any luck with animated GIF's for wallpapers? The image shows up for me just no animation.

Re: Samsung u420: Did I just buy a very sexy peice of crap?

I have no clue what brand my cable is, it's just a generic cable, came in a box with a bunch of happy people on it but no name brand. Got mine from iGoneMoblie and it has worked perfectly. Make sure you install BitPim then the Driver (both found in the Wiki Here) Then reboot the computer. Start up BitPim and select to view filesystem in the menus. then plug in your phone and you should see a red busy light in the bottom left corner of the window. The light should turn green as soon as the phone is ready then just click on the / folder in the middle frame of the window and have at it.

I would surely hang on to it, but try it this way first.

Just to let everyone know, I'm assuming you all have Alltel service, since to my knowledge that is the only provider that offers the u420.

With alltel you can now have ringback tones. the music that a person hears when they call you instead of just the ring... ring...

    Here's the forum

The Website, Samsung and other should already be chosen.

Re: Samsung u420: Did I just buy a very sexy peice of crap?

I just wanted to say thanks to all the guys that helped to find ways to get ringtones and wallpapers on the phone. I actually switched from the u520 to the u420 because of this thread.

Edit: The usb cable i got came with drivers and i tried them first and it didn't work. I just used the links to the drivers and bitpim privided in the wiki and i works very well.

Alright well I took it in. And all they're gonna do is send me a replacement. That's it. They aren't even attempting to take it in and fix it.

The limitations on Blue Tooth isn't Samsung's fault.
    It's Bell's.
When I bought my Samsung a900 almost 2 weeks ago, the rep told me that Bell restricted Blue Tooth to headsets only so that they can make money off data transfers via WAP.
My a900 came with an USB cord though, so it's all good
Plus, with $7/month unlimited EV-DO Internet.
Roger's doesn't restrict Blue Tooth. I downloaded a full song onto my dad's Motorola v551 with Rogers once.

Hey everyone (especially desheffer) - Thanks for your effort and dilligence in discovering the intricacies of the U420. I'm now making my own ringtones and transferring them to my phone, and loving it.

    Thanks again,
    Eric C.

Just a question but does anyone know if this will void the warrenty or anyother voidable thing? also, is there a way to remove these added files yet?
