My dad and I both went to upgrade our phones last friday and both decided on getting the Katalyst (SGH-T739). Our only problem with the phone is that the battery life for both of them is pretty terrible.

After charging it overnight on Saturday, it was completely dead by 10pm Sunday night, so it only lasted about 12-13 hours. In that time I maybe sent and received a dozen text messages, and then spent 10 minutes looking through the menus. Then last night I charged it up again when I went to bed, and then unplugged it this morning around 10; had 3 full bars till 4pm, and when I checked again at 7, it had one bar left where it still is now (10:30pm). I made and received one call and sent another roughly 12 texts.

My dad's phone also has been having similar problems, and died today an hour after he got to work.

We went in to the T-Mobile store to exchange the phones, and the person working tried to convince us that any phone you buy today is going to be having these problems and will need to be charged up nightly. But I had not even made any phone calls; that, and the information about the phone says 5 hours of talking time and 240 hours of standby time. I understand that the 240 is in ideal conditions, but the phone only lasting 1/20th of the amount is ridiculous. On both of our last phones, we could get 3-4 days worth of use out of it before having to charge them again.

So I am looking for what ever advice you guys can give me. Do we need new ones? Different ones? Or is that just the way phones are now of days.

    Thanks for the help!

Re: Samsung Katalyst battery life question...

Wanted to give an update to my problem with the hopes that someone can help.

So the night after I posted above, I left my phone on the charger for over 12 hours just because I wanted to leave it fully charged as long as possible. I took it off around 2pm on Tuesday, and it lasted with my normal usage up through Thursday night when it was at 2 out of 3 bars. But I placed the phone on the charger over night because I was driving back home, and I did not want to be stranded with a dead phone. I took it off the charger at 8am, and it died by 3am this morning.

Could it be that a big city like Kansas City would be more draining on a cell phone battery than a smaller city like Manhattan, KS? Is the phone only gauging the amount of battery life as the amount it was last charged?

I would suggest turning off the WiFi feature on the phone. I had the same problem when I first purchased the Samsung Katalyst, but disabling the WiFi significantly increased the battery life, at least for me it did. Of course, if you're using the WiFi to call from home this option wont really work for you. It's pretty simple to do though, just go to Menu, then Settings, then WiFi, go to option number 4 under WiFi and select 'turn off'. Hope this helps you out.
