Hi everybody. It's interesting to read your suggestions about the topic.
Does anybody have an idea, what cell phones do every half minute? I found that my cell phone sends every 30 seconds some sequence of radio signals. It's always the same sequence. Each transmission lasts up to 4 seconds. It does it every day, without exceptions. I can hear it because my stereo speakers produce a high frequency distorted sound during these transmissions. It's worrying me because such a strong signal inevitably affect human organism.
My cell is Samsung GT-S8500 (Wave). But it doesn't matter, because when I used Sony Ericsson k750i, situation was just the same, but Wave's signal is much stronger and sounds much louder in my speakers.

Re: Unknown cell activity each 30 seconds
It depends on the phone and perhaps some apps that are being run, but it sounds like what you're describing is radio interference from the phone when communicating with nearby towers. It does this to verify signal strength and that it should be getting transmissions from that specific tower or not. This usually only happens with GSM phones.
The topic about whether radio frequencies produced by cell phone have long term effects has been debated since cell phones became popular.

Re: Unknown cell activity each 30 seconds
Thanks for reply.
Yes, I agree that the phone should periodically communicate with towers and also that my mobile network operator should know if I'm online (available for call) or not, but I've never thought that it has to be done every 30 seconds. My opinion, it's too often. Who initiates such communications? My mobile operator or my phone? If it is my operator, how often do other network providers test their users worldwide? All I can do now to avoid irritating sound from my speakers is to turn on flight mode from time to time. Not the best option...

Re: Unknown cell activity each 30 seconds
Even if to turn off one's cell phone at night, the rest of the day (around 16 hours) it will be contacting towers. The summarized time of such communications will be around 6720 seconds per day, which means 2 hours of pure radio connection, just like if you were calling somebody. Do you talk to anybody for 2 hours per call?) Well, maybe not so often, maybe a few times a week. But your phone does it every day

Re: Unknown cell activity each 30 seconds
Even more. My PC freezes each time when my cell performs these transmissions. After 5-10 seconds computer unfreezes. Each time. I have figured it out today. If I put my cell on a speaker, the noise is so loud that my neighbours can hear it, speakers produce noise at the loudest possible volume. After that, computer freezes for a few seconds. What the hall is this?

Is it a wave-only problem? Nobody knows?

Re: Unknown cell activity each 30 seconds
Wires are not a problem. I've got the best possible wires so now they are not interfered by electromagnetic waves. Previous type of wires was not so good and my monitor was displaying noise during those gsm transmissions. But my PC, its internal components are not shielded. And I'm not sure if there is a way to isolate them from any EM-radiation. It's interesting, which device is actually interfered by em-waves causing those freezes? Memory? HDD? Entire motherboard and everything on it? I have never heart about such influence of cell phones. It would be very useful if other Samsung Wave users told about their experience.

Re: Unknown cell activity each 30 seconds
This is very interesting and certainly something worth looking into just for the sake of curiosity. My guess, like the others, is that your phone is just doing something all phones do.
