This tutorial will teach you how to back up the EFS folder of any Samsung Android device. By backing up the EFS folder, you can safely install custom ROMs and recovery images on your devices, as you won’t have to worry whether or not you will have network access afterwards on it.

The EFS folder contains very important information about your device - here you will find the IMEI number for example, and every time you decide to update your device using a custom ROM, the EFS folder may end up wiped, resulting in a disabled network connection. Without a network connection you won't be able to use your device. That’s why it’s imperative to back up the EFS folder before you make any attempt to install custom ROMs.

Requirements and How-To

1. Download the EFS Pro tool.
2. Your Samsung device needs to be rooted in order to install the EFS Pro tool. Keep in mind that by rooting your smartphone, its warranty will be voided, but you can later on restore its warranty if you downgrade the stock ROM.
3. A Windows computer (be it Vista, 7, XP).
4. An USB cable.
5. Microsoft.net Framework 4.0 has to be installed on your computer, otherwise the EFS app will not work.
6. Then you need to install the EFS Pro tool on your computer.
7. Connect your smartphone to your computer via the USC cable.
8. Open the EFS Pro tool and follow the prompts that will guide you through the back up process.
9. And this is pretty much everything there is to it. Keep in mind that there are several other programs that you help you back up your data. This one however is the easiest as you only need to install the program to your computer.
