First, I have tried FAQ and search, advanced search. That said, maybe somebody can explain member status (newbie is self-explanatory) and who/what changes it. Rank: how rep power is determined and who is responsible for this determination (numerical ranking). Colored box(es) to the right of rep power rank (the color used, I get): what determines the number of boxes assigned and the comments displayed when one hovers over them?Examples:...on a distinguished road,...off the scale,...has much to be proud of,...has spectacular aura,...jewel in the rough.
Basically, is there some sort of guide to all of this? If so, where is it to be found? If not, provide some illumination please. In some respects, this site is a bit unintuitive and cumbersome. No offense, merely an observation to consider for those who control/manage it. I am smarter than the average bear, so if I find something perplexing, I KNOW I am not the only one. On a positive note, it IS an interesting site, and some of the layout is good. As far as people posting on incorrect forum, why don't the moderators move them on a consistent basis? The sticky's are cool, just figured those out, but unfortunately, because we live in an instant gratification culture, too many refuse to read first. You know this is true...how many people try to operate something w/o even first or ever consulting the manual?
Also, I figured it would be wise to bank CPF$ to keep it safe from thieves, however, doing this seems to prevent you from donating it to somebody. Am I wrong? If so, please guide me on this. If not, please consider changing this. TIA. Smiles.

if you dont change your User Title in the store, your rank newbie, junior member, etc. is determined by how many posts you have.
other people give you rep and they do that by clicking on the scales under your location, provider, etc.
if you want to donate money you have to take it out and put it back into your "pocket" dont worry as long as you dont just leave alot of money in your pocket no one will steal it because they wont have time if you donate it quick enough. also the higher your rep the less likely you are to be stolen from.

I thank you for the response. Not to appear ungracious or ungrateful, I was hoping for some more specifics, maybe even a thank you for your input--will pass ideas on. Last, do I donate CPF$ from bank to myself to get it into my pocket?

OK and thank you for the banking issue. Specifics: sigh, I really thought my first post on this thread was comprehensible. Essentially, basic info that takes the mystery out of number of posts, referrals, ratings by others, etc in relationship to rank, status, standing and so forth, to advance. Also some info that puts some order to the the ranks like the military. Private, corporal, Private first class, E-1,2,3..., O-1,2,3.... In order to advance from E-1 to E-2 for instance requires you enlist with a buddy, or have x amount of time in service and so forth. Understand now? Right now it's as mysterious as buying a car and not knowing what the rate & terms will be until the salesman confers with the manager where you are not included in that conference. Make sense now? thanks again.

Okay, here's a quick explanation of things.
CPF$:
New thread: $10
New reply: $5
Per thread view on thread you created: $0.1
Referral: $100
Good rep (multiplied by amount of rep points user has) $1
Bad rep (multiplied by amount of rep points user has) $2
Bank Interest per day: 1% of total amount
Reputation:
New users: 10 points
For every 90 days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power
For every 500 posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power
For every 250 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power
User must have 50 posts before reputation hits count on others
User must have 25 reputation points before reputation hits count on others
User can give 10 reputation click a day.
User must give 20 reputations to different users before returning to the same user
Reputation lost on successful thievery: 5
Reputation Lost on failed thievery: 10
It's important to note that reputation points and power are different. To see how many points you have, click on the scale in any post of yours. Your power is based on the number of points and other things above.
User Titles: (stock values)
Newbie 1-5 posts
Junior member 6-29
Member 30 - 99
Sr. Member 100 - 249
Phone Addict 250 - 499
Phone Maniac 500 - 999
Phone Post Whore 1000 +
I think I covered everything. I should probably put all that in the faq.
I will be putting in user rank image at some point that is based on user group and posts. For example, if a user is a Phone Addict, and they have a rep above 250, they could be put in a different group, and will have a certain icon under their name. There's a number of different ways to set things up.

Thank you very much for a detailed explanation...what I was shooting for in the first place. It's all so less mysterious now, and I am positive there are others whose curiosity will be satisfied as well. I was, in a sense, suggesting that this be added to the FAQ...apparently you picked up on that subtlety. Your reply is appreciated. Smiles.

Just an FYI--Ignorance has nothing to do with unwillingness to learn. I am pasting the definitions for "ignorant" as per dictionary.com:
1.Lacking education or knowledge.
2.Showing or arising from a lack of education or knowledge: an ignorant mistake.
3.Unaware or uninformed.
It's a common misinterpretation. The shame is not in being ignorant, but a willingness or complacency to remain so.
OBX--np...now we all know. Brad--and you have been illuminated as well. Great googly moogly, it's a fine day. Smiles.Last edited by PrimeWoman; 03-24-2006 at 12:24 PM. Reason: mistake

I don't see a place to bank $ and how do people steal from you? I've seen this thief thing talked about, but nobody really tells you anything about it? What is it and how do people do it to you and how do you do it to others and how can you tell if someone is even stealing from you?

"modern accepted"?? Without a usable standard definiton for words, how would we be able to communicate effectively and get our point across with clarity and minimizing misunderstanding?? Of course, you must have some sense of how difficult that is for many, given that you read these posts...Some people display ignorance in articulating their message. Now, the definition for idiot is: A foolish or stupid person. Offensive? derogatory? negative connotation? Absolutely, but appropriate for specifying a person who insists on remaining ignorant. LOL.. I apologize if it seems as if I am harping on technicality, but I LOVE the english language. English is a fabulous and dynamic language. Within it, is a specific word for everything, and if not, one is created. A thesaurus may list words that are similar, but often there are slight differences in nuance, appropriateness and acceptibilty in it's context for conveying just the right thought, idea, emotion. Smiles.
Oh...if you are a parent, you might agree that, at times, ignorance CAN be bliss...LOL
