Taking Photos with the Sony Xperia Z:

There are two methods of capturing photos with the Xperia Z's camera: by touching any spot of the viewfinder, or tapping the camera button. To capture a photo by touching the display:

  1. Access the "Camera" app located on the home screen
  2. Tap the "Settings" icon located in the bottom-left corner of the display (while in landscape mode)
  3. Select "Touch capture" and make sure it's set to "On"
  4. To activate auto focus, tap and hold the desired spot on the screen while pointing the camera at the subject
  5. Once the focus frame becomes blue, release your finger to capture the image

General Tips:

- To zoom in an out, press the volume up or down button
- To activate the flash, tap the "Settings" icon in the camera app and press "Flash"
- To capture a self-portrait, tap the "Camera" icon located at the top-left corner of the screen in landscape mode > select "Front camera". Tap the camera button to capture the image

Enabling Face Detection:

Face detection enables your smartphone's camera to auto-focus on faces automatically. It can detect up to five faces which will be framed on-screen. Yellow frames indicate which faces have been focused on. Note: the focus is usually set on the face that is closest to the camera

  1. Access the camera app
  2. Tap the icon located in the top-left corner of the display
  3. Select "Normal"
  4. Press the "Settings" icon
  5. Tap "Focus mode" then select "Face detection"
  6. In order to manually select the face on which you wish to focus, tap the desired frame

Enabling "Smile Shutter":

Smile Shutter is a feature that enables your smartphone to automatically capture photos when detecting a smile. To enable this feature:

  1. Access the "Camera" app
  2. Press the "Settings" icon
  3. Tap "Smile shutter" and select a "smile level"

Using Smile Shutter:

  1. Point the camera at the subject. Smile Shutter can detect up to five faces
  2. The camera automatically selects the closest face as its trigger (indicated by the green frame). To manually change the focus on another subject, tap the corresponding frame

Enabling Geotagging:

Geotagging allows you to add an approximate geographical location to your photos (also known as geotags)

  1. Activate the camera
  2. Tap the "Settings" icon
  3. Select "Geotagging" and press "On"
  4. Tap "OK" in order to agree the enabling of Wi-Fi and / or GPS
  5. Under "Location services" check the desired options then press the "Back" button to return to the camera app
  6. A map pin icon should now appear on screen. This indicates that geotagging works as intended
  7. Capture your photo
