Sprint service in VT vs. Unicel and Verizon

What are people's experience with the cell phone coverage of the three big companies in Vermont: Sprint, Unicel and Verizon. I am hoping to use a cell phone in somewhat rural areas in northern and central VT, much of NH and much of northern NY state.

I am a Sprint User and recently visited my family in Montpelier. I had a pretty good signal in many places but in quite a few places I was mostly in digital roaming.
