I was gonna stick with Samsung (Moment) because I have had such a great experience with other Samsung phones, but thought I would check out the HTC Hero as well -- anyone have pros or cons for either they would like to share? Thanks.

Reliability (lack of breaking) is important to me...

Re: Which Sprint Android phone is best?

Well, I didn't hear from anybody so I went over to the store. The HTC Hero didn't have a slide-out keyboard, but it was much lighter. On the other hand, the Samsung Moment was a lot heavier but it had a slide-out keyboard :-) so I went with that.

I am struggling with it now in use, though, because it seems so much harder to engage than what I am used to. My old phone, if I just opened it, it would be On, and I could click the middle button twice and see instantly if I had any calls or messages while I was away (Menu, then Missed Alerts). The Moment, I have to push the End button, then touch Menu, and then it is like three more touches/screens to see Notifications.

I guess I am not ready for a smartphone, because I have not used any of the applications, nor have I found any in the Android market that are compelling enough to purchase or even download for free. I would like to get rid of some that came with the phone, though -- I will NEVER use the NFL or Nascar ones.

The phone is too bulky (and too fragile) to go in my pocket as I was accustomed to with the old one. The call quality is not as good as my cheap landline phone, either. The voice dialing is not as good as the old one -- I asked it to call "Andrew" and it gave me "Leslie." I don't like any of the ringtone choices much, and wish I could have ported over my old one.

One reason I went with a smartphone is that the screens of the other Samsung phones were smaller than my old one. I used my old one as a camera quite a lot, and that was valuable to me. Otherwise I would have gone with the Reclaim, I think. (Why only a Samsung? Well, I had such a good experience reliability-wise with my old one, and also I thought another Samsung phone might have similar menu structure, easier to come up to speed. So far this doesn't seem to be the case.)

I have a month to return it. But don't know what I would get instead. Sigh.

Re: Which Sprint Android phone is best?

I ended up returning the Moment. It kept doing things while I was talking to clients and making distracting sounds -- the movement of my cheek must have activated things. And even with things turned off (like GPS) the battery drained so fast that it was hardly practical to take it out of the house.

So although I did eventually download some decent apps, I couldn't use them for very long away from the charger, so I might as well just have used my laptop. The last straw was one Saturday when I tried to use the voice dialer to call home from my car (I was parked, don't worry LOL), and simply could not get it to work. The voice dialer on my old Sprint Samsung Blade worked fine -- why did they change it??

So I marched back to the store and traded it in for the Reclaim, after checking out all their phones yet again. I am not liking it as much as my old phone, either -- the keyboard is unbelievably tiny -- but at least it does not have all the downsides of a smartphone. And it is a lot cheaper. And it's green.

The only good thing is that I was able to return everything with no hassle, even the phone cover. That was the best thing about the Moment -- the wonderful blue color of the cover.

But I did have to wait a very long time in the store to be served. They could do a better job distracting you while you wait -- the music was awful and way too loud and there was nothing to do. The netbook demonstrating the wireless internet thingy was too slow to be useful for surfing. Next time, if there is a next time, I will take a book and maybe some earplugs.

And the Reclaim still drops calls at home so that I am using my landline for clients much of the time anyway. Don't know why. My old phone did also but I was hoping a new one would be better. Reclaim ringtones are sucky, too. Bah.
