Hi guys! One of the hot topics in our school activity is the consolidation of Sprint and Nextel Telecommunications. What are your reactions with regards to this matter?

Re: Reactions on the Sprint-Nextel Consolidation

Can you be a little more specific in your question? Sprint bought out Nextel a few years back. Nextel is now the backbone, or at least half of it for its Boost Mobile prepaid segment. Even though Sprint aquired Virgin Mobile and is making CDMA more widely available on their prepaid segments, Nextel holds a major steak in the government segment : police/fire/emergency workers, etc all heavily rely on the nextel push to talk services. Noone has come close yet to match the near real-time speeds of the Nextel network.

While it may not seem like Sprint is investing a lot into the Nextel platform, keep this in mind, the i1 was the first Nextel Android to accomodate the major business and government accounts still on that network. Next, the Nextel network doens't require a lot of maintenance, Nextel customer's pretty much stay with Nextel. So if Sprint just keeps the existing nextel customer's happy, they don't really need to grow that segment of the business with post paid. Prepaid seems to be the future of telecom, and Boost/Nextel is highly invested in that venture/segment.
