Linux started off as an i386 operating system, and it has been ported to ARM, MIPS, Sparc/Ultrasparc, DEC Alpha, Power PC, and so on. When the Symbian kernel is available as open source, there is nothing stopping the developer community from porting it to i386 and even other platforms. Symbian is a pretty decent operating system and quite stable - it could work as a PC platform. It is one of the world's most popular operating systems already.
