I purchased a $10 T-Mobile refill card yesterday at a chain store and had problems. The clerk had to activate the card at the register. Also, I was charged 84 cents sales tax. When purchased at a T-Mobile store or even at a newsstand, I am never charged sales tax. Is that legal? Anyway, the card wasn't activated until I made 5 calls to customer service and then it took over 8 hours and lots of aggravation. I waited from 9 AM to after 5PM for activation.

Re: T-Mobile Refill Cards
When you buy refill cards, you get taxed as it's a regular purchase (like cds, paper towels, etc...). I use babblebug.com to purchase refill cards for my Tmo2go and Boost phones-no tax. Also, you just can't pick up a card from a rack (prepaid cell cards and reg. phone cards)and buy it without it being activated beforehand. It would be too easy for shoplifters to swipe 'em. Same thing with gift cards.
Now the problems you had when you got home is bizarre. In the future, just keep your receipt in case you have any other mishap.
