Has anyone managed to get the V3x syncing with their computer to
transfer contacts, and if so, how did you do it? Neither the Motorola
website or the V3x micro site clearly explain what software is needed
    for this task.

I'm going to import the contacts from my old Nokia 6230 into Outlook
and then will want to somehow get them into the V3x. I'd rather avoid
having to buy a data cable and do it over Bluetooth if possible.

    TIA

Well the 3 branded V3x comes with Motorola Phone Tools V4 and a usb data
    cable in the box.

I did it by creating a separate folder in my Outlook contacts and calling
it Mobile Contacts. Into this folder I copied all of my old phone contacts.

Using MPT - Phonebook - Sync - Modify the synchronization settings -
Synchronization folder - change ....select the folder you created
previously...and then sync and Hey Presto, all of the contacts in that
folder should appear on the phone.

The Vodafone V3x doesn't come with a data cable or MPT :-(

Fortunately, I have a data cable that works (from a digital camera) but
no copy of MPT. Do you know anywhere I can buy or get it online? I
really want to do this tonight and not have to trek to a shop or even
worse, wait for a CD to arrive.

Well, I initially had a registered copy of MPT v3 that didn't recognise the
V3x. The v4 that came with the phone recognised it instantly. Curiously,
this version does not seem to be on the Motorola website or the software
manufacturer's one either (www.bvrp.com), so all I can suggest is keep an
eye on the usual places, torrent sites, Kazaa etc.. or find someone with a
3 version and copy their disk...which of course would be illegal ;o)

Alternatively, sign up with 3 on a tariff where the V3x is free, take the
goodies home, do the deed and then return everything under the 14 day
satisfaction guarantee..which would certainly be immoral ;o)

Re: Motorola V3x and contact sync

I managed to get MPT v3 from a dodgy site but that's not compatible
with the V3x. It should have the ability to update itself but that
    doesn't work either.

The joke is I'd be happy to pay for V4 if it was available on the
Motorola or BVRP site, but it doesn't seem like it is. With regards
your second solution, I'd feel a bit mean doing that to a Three
    salesman to be honest!

The support for this phone is an absolute joke. I've got far too many
numbers to enter in manually, so I'm stuck with a handset that's
basically useless until I track down this elusive piece of software :-(

Interestingly enough, on the official Motorola V3x site, on their
accessories section, they're only selling V3, which seems to be
reported not to work with this phone. So even if I'd done as Motorola
advise and bought the datacable and MPT V3 pack it might still not work.

Take a laptop in to a 3 store, and say you bought one a few days ago
from another shop, but you're away from home and need to install the
software, is there any chance borrowing a CD out of the box for 2
    minutes.

The only problem with that is they are likely to want to see his 3 branded
    V3x ;o(
