Is it possible to hide your number when sending a text message? When
using my O2 sim card I have selected the "hide my number" option under
the calls tab but my number seems to show up when I send text messages
to my t-mobile sim card, (the reason I send them to another sim card
belonging to myself is that I am just testing this feature out and I
wish to remain anonymous when sending a text message) I have used used
both the 141 and #31# prefixes but I get the message "sending failed".
I have also tried the same options using my t-mobile sim card to send
to my O2 sim but when I enter the 141 prefix I get the same "sending
failed error". When I use the #31# prefix I get the following message
from t-mobile "unable to send message plaease check the destination
telephone number and try again. Note all national UK mobile numbers
now start with 07
Thanks in advance

I'm curious to know why you want your number withheld when sending a
text message ..

You can't withhold your number when sending a text message; probably to
stop the types of messages you want to send.

I remember huge discussions in uk.telecom many years ago when CLI was
introduced. There were some /very/ pure people who maintained they would
/never/ want to speak to /anyone/ who withheld their number. Some
thoughts were aired that might be legitimate reasons for withholding CLI
but there weren't many (and I can't remember any).
I can think of three reasons why CLI shouldn't be withheld for SMS. 1)
The phone is used for all sorts of purposes; SMS is largely social and
there are few justifications for withholding CLI in a social context. 2)
phoning is a two-way interaction and if you don't like the conversation
you can stop the call - and you may have recognised the caller anyway.
SMS is sent (and received) in one go; you've got it all whether you want
it or not. 3) The content might easily be a picture these days and it
might be offensive. Allowing such objects to be sent anonymously would
encourage it.
I didn't know that CLI couldn't be withheld from SMS. Assuming it's
true, the more I think about it, the happier I am. I'd be interested to
see if there are any occasions when it would be vital to use SMS rather
than some other means of communication and it is beneficial (to the
community - not just to the sender) that CLI is withheld.

Re: K750i & hiding number
Last time I looked there were plenty of web-to-SMS services where you could
specify any sending number you like for an SMS message. One that springs to
mind is Clickatell Pro. www.clickatell.com
Although I'm not sure if I'd want someone called Global Assassin sending me
dodgy messages!

lol, I'm not a bad perosn. It's just a moniker, I know I ought to
change it as some people do think that I am out to cause trouble just
because of my moniker I will some day eventually.
