Any good SIM only deals?

Hi,

My friend is on Pay as you go, spends about £20 a month and would like to
continue paying about that.

Pay as you go is now no good to him as he wants proper bills he can use to
submit as business expenses, so he wants to get a contract.

He doesn't care about getting a new phone, and doesn't want cash back deals
or anything silly. So we wondered if there were any decent SIMS only deals
out there that could maximise his minutes rather than subsidise a phone!

Any suggestions appreciated.

Dont bother with www.mobile-page.co.uk its **** some mupet trying sell
the domain on sedo with loads affiliate links. £1,111 for that name
what a prat.

That one is £25 a month, 250 any time x-net minutes and 1000 text.

The o2 one is the same price, same texts but you only get 200 mins as
opposed to 250 with voda.

Both of them have got a 30 day contract period, so should anything
happen with his job at any time he can get out of the contract whenever
he likes.

I think both of them are subject to having a new number though, I
know for definite the vodafone one is as a mate tried to keep his
old number and they wouldn't let him, it's subject to having a new
voda number.

Has your friend thought about Virgin? If you get a PAYG account with
them you can switch online to postpay - you pay by direct debit each
month for what you have used - and you get a fully itemised bill which
should be fine for a business expense claim.

Works well - I pay about a tenner a month including gprs charges for
email and internet access on my phone. You can get a virgin sim for
about a fiver with £5 of credit...

I was only suggesting what the OP asked for in the first place!
No need to be so snappy.

Maybe they don't want to have to fanny about with posting off claim
forms, which if they're like me they'll forget to do, plus there's
also the fact that they'll have to pay the £30 odd pound a month
still anyway, plus it's still a 12 month contract, should his job
not last that long then he's stuck with it, with either of the
sim only deals you can cancel with 30 days notice at any time.

These cash back deals really are a big pain in the butt, if it
was a case that the network just did the free line rental etc,
I'm sure a lot more people would take them up.

No need to tie-in to a contract to get a bill.

How about Virgin Mobile with a Direct Debit set-up, which means a
fully itemised bill will be issued?

Considering a friend ported in to an o2 SIM only, and I ported in to a Voda
SIM only, I would suggest you are wrong.

Where are the other 900 texts per month? Seems like a very big difference.

(I threatened to leave Voda SIM only, so they chucked me an N70 for free.
And I stay on the SIM only tariff. Result.)

existing SIM-only tariff with 30 days notice.

I can't believe for one minute that he's not now tied in for either 12
or 18 months. You'd be surprised how much Voda operators can mislead the
customer by omission.

You may still have the same monthly cost and the same call allowances
and this alone would be enough for the operator to justify the claim
that you can stay on the same tariff. It's just that I have NEVER come
across anoyone who's been given a free handset upgrade without having to
agree to an extension of their lock-in period (whether explicitly or by
implication of the network's upgrade rules).

I am on Virgin PAYG but with a direct debit mandate so I can roam
overseas. I get a proper itemised bill. I sometimes only pay a pound
or so a month.

You can get a virgin sim for a fiver.

He's not. He said "SIM only tariff", not "SIM only terms and conditions".

He is. The operator he spoke to was very clear and open about the change in
terms.

Of course it is by extension of the minimum term. But I defy you to show me
a 12-month package that includes an N70, 250 minutes of calls each month,
and £120-worth of SMS, MMS and data per month for an all-in £300 in 12 equal
monthly payments. As a guide, I use about 700 SMS, 50 MMS, and a couple of
MB of non-VFL data.
