What does o2 uk operate on? I am looking at a phone on ebay and it says it
    works on gsm 850/1800/1900.

I know o2 is gsm 900 and 1900 is usa I think among others but not sure if it
will work in uk on 1800.

You'll only get O2 on 1800MHz in built up urban areas mainly. O2 is
    primarily a 900MHz network.

Same rule applies to Vodafone and their 1800MHz network.

Cheers for that. I was looking at a sierra voq smartphone but it looks huge
and not that good on closer inspection anyhow. Maybe an spv c550 will be
    better or some other smartphone.

Now which is the better of these 3.

    spv 500, spv 550 or o2 xda?

Just need a smartphone that has outlook so it syncs with my laptop and works
on o2 so i keep my number. I know the spv's are unlockable as th wife has a
550 and I like it and unlocked it myself.

Well...... they appear to work on all bands (I have one here).

Yes, they're a bit chunky, but that's offset by having a proper fold-out
keyboard. They take standard SD cards and work bloody well. Also dirt
    cheap.
