My son bought a "New" N80 on Ebay. It arrived well packed but with a
small dent and a folder called Porn created in the memory. All was well
for about a month and then the phone stopped charging. The output from
the unloaded PSU seemed low so I bought a new Nokia PSU. Now, after a
week of use the battery is getting very very hot when charging (hotter
than any charging Li+ battery I've touched before) and loses its charge
almost immediately its disconnected from the charger.
Is this a duff battery or is it the phone? Is there a fire risk?

Li ion batts only have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles.
It sounds like it's at the end of it's life.
Time for a new battery!

If it's not charging correctly it sounds like a dodgy battery. Yes it
could be a fire risk, any electronic device that is running hotter than
normal when charging could potentially be a fire risk.
I would replace the battery as a precaution, it's not working correctly
anyway.
