I usually don't buy insurance for things like this as it's a rip off.
But I did get the carphone warehouse insurance for my O2 iPhone as I was
led to believe that you can't just buy a new one and reactivate it.
Does anyone know what happens if you need to get a new phone because you
lose or break it and don't have insurance? Can you buy a new one for
£269 off the shelf and get it reactivated by O2 on the old account &
phone number? Or is there a more complex and/or expensive system for
replacing/repairing it?
O2's insurance is cheaper than CPW's but seems to depend on couriers to
collect and replace, which has never worked properly for me. With CPW
you can do it all in one of their shops (they say) which would be a lot
more convenient. I assume that they would swap a broken phone, for a
replacement (reconditioned?) iPhone on the spot?
I guess I should read all the small print but any info/opinions would be
welcome. My preferred option would be to dump the over-priced insurance
as long as I have the option of simply buying a new iPhone and
activating it on my existing contract were that to become necessary.

O2 hasn't said, and we've had no reports of anyone trying it.

There is another thread covering this. The staff in an O2 shop said
that you could just buy another one and activate it on the same account
with the same number.
