o2 iphone question

I had the original iphone - upgraded to the iphone 3g 8gb and now have
managed to fill that up thanks to some of the great apps and my music.
I'm wondering if I can still "upgrade" to the 16gb model and just pay
the hundred odd for the handset and get the 18month contract renewed?

Can't you insert Micro SD cards?
