The American Red Cross is accepting donations via texting. All you have to do is text HAITI to 90999. $10 will be charged to your cell phone bill which will be sent to the red cross for the Haiti relief effort. This will only work with US mobile phone numbers.

$5 million has already been raised from texting alone! Do it and spread the word!

For those that have heard this is a scam, here is the proof that it's not: Your Mobile Giving by State

FYI, I just did this and did not receive a confirmation text back right away. You should receive a text back asking to confirm the donation by sending back YES. To make sure your donation went through go to this site and enter your phone number that you sent the donation from : The mGive Foundation If no donations were found for your number, wait a couple hours and try again. Their system may be experiencing high volume.

Re: Text 'HAITI' to 90999 to donate to the Red Cross

I read that the 2004 tsunami raised $200,000 through mobile donations, hurricane katrina raised $400,000 in 2005. it's crazy how far we've come in 5 years! I never would have felt okay sending a donation by text then, but I didn't give this a second thought.
