I don't see a forum appropriate for this question, so I apologize in advance.
I want to use a cell phone to "call home" when something happens on my boat (dock line breaks, forced entry, etc.). I obviously don't want an expensive contract and don't really care about time charges. It just needs to be an inexpensive phone, pre-paid, I assume.
Which phones can I "control" through their connector? I don't want to use Bluetooth or anything that complicated. I'd be happy to send a simple text messgae to a specific phone number. I'm an engineer, so creating the controlling signals is no problem.

Re: Cellphone as a peripheral?
I think you missed my question. I need to cause the phone to make a call (without human intervention). My personal phone responds to the button on the mic/earphone accessory by displaying the address book. A second longer push calls the first entry.
I could use that, assuming the chaep phones have a similar button on the headset. I guess I'll have to synthesize a voice message .
I was hoping the "data connector" of the phone might enable a more controllable interface, but I can't find any info about that...
