I'm looking into buying a new smartphone with GPS capabilities, but I do not want to pay for a data plan. It is my understanding that there are two types of integrated GPS chips on smart phone--GPS and a-GPS. It is my understanding that if a cell phone has a GPS chip having a data plan is not necessary in order to find your location. Is this true? Is there are comprehensive list in existence that shows which phones contain which types of GPS?

Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
