I have samsung galaxy pop smartphone, which has low internal memory of just 181MB. I have heard that rooting solves this problem. Any suggestions?

If you root the phone it will most likely void the warranty and you can break the phone if you don't do it properly.

It should allow you to move more application to the microSD card, but some application developers disable the feature because it will stop some parts of the application from working if you move it to the microSD card. So, although rooting should allow you to do it, some applications might not work properly.
