Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Tap “Battery” under “Device
  4. Tap “Menu” > “Battery saver
  5. Tap the switch to enable Battery saver

Turn Off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS:

NOTE: You can improve battery life in the long run by disabling the phone’s connectivity features when they are not in use. To do this:

  1. Drag the “Status” bar down from the home screen
  2. Tap the tiles associated with “Bluetooth”, “Wi-Fi” and “Location” (GPS) to disable these features
  3. To change how GPS works, go to “Settings” > “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving

Use 2G instead of 4G:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Tap “More” under “Wireless & networks
  4. Tap “Cellular networks” > “Preferred network type
  5. Select “3G” or “2G
  6. To return to 4G, select “LTE

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Go to “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Display” and if necessary, turn off “Adaptive brightness
  4. Tap “Brightness level” and drag the slider towards the left
  5. Return to the “Display” menu and tap “Sleep
  6. Select a lower value, like “15 seconds

Change the Sync Settings:

NOTE: By setting your phone / accounts to sync less data or less often, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts
  4. Select an account, tap “Sync” and disable the desired sync options

Minimize the Use of 3rd Party Applications:

NOTE: Certain third party aps can affect your phone’s battery performance even when you don’t use them – assuming that the respective apps run regular processes in the background. That being said, you might be able to battery life in the long run by disabling or removing unused third party apps.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps
  4. Go to the “Downloaded” section and select the desired app
  5. Tap “Disable”, or tap “Uninstall” > “OK” to completely remove it

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software update can include improvements to battery life. As such you should keep your phone up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “About phone” and tap “System updates
  4. Check of a new update is available. If it is, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it
