Turn On Battery Saving Mode:
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
- Tap “Menu” and turn on “Battery saver”
Decrease Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Access the “Settings” menu
- Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display”
- Disable “Adaptive brightness” if necessary
- Tap “Brightness level” and drag the slider to the left
- Return to “Display” and tap “Sleep”
- Select a lower timeout value, such as “15 seconds”
Turn off Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling connectivity features when they are not in use (Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, Bluetooth), you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen
- Tap the tiles associated with “Bluetooth”, “Wi-Fi” and “Location” to disable these features
- Access the phone’s “Settings” menu
- For additional GPS settings, go to “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- To disable Hotspot, go back to “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Turn off “Tethering & Mobile Hotspot”
Minimize the Use of Third Party Apps:
NOTE: Certain third party applications on your phone can affect battery performance even when you don’t use them – assuming that the apps run regular background processes. As such, by disabling or removing unused third party apps, you might be able to improve battery life in the long run.
- Access the “Settings” menu
- Tap “Apps” under “Device”
- Go to “Downloaded” and select the desired application
- Tap “Force stop” / “Disable” to turn off the app
- Tap “Uninstall” > “OK” to remove the app from the phone
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By minimizing sync, you can improve battery life in the long run. To change account sync options:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal”
- Tap “Accounts” and select an account type
- Clear the check boxes associated with the sync options you wish to turn off
Switch from 4G to 2G:
- Launch the “Settings” menu
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & networks”
- Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
- Select “2G”
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements. As such, you should check if newer updates are available, and keep your OS up to date.
- Access the “Settings” menu
- Scroll down to “System”
- Tap “About phone”
- Tap “System updates” and if a newer OS version is available, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it
