Change Date & Time Settings:
- Tap the “Settings” tile on the Start screen
- Access “Time & Language”
- Tap “Date & Time” and disable “24-hour clock” and “set date and time automatically” if necessary
- Tap the “Date” fields, set a date and tap “Done”
- Tap the “Time” field and adjust the time, then tap the check mark button to confirm
Set an Alarm:
- Swipe the Start screen to “App list”
- Tap “Alarms & Clock”
- To create a new alarm, tap “+” at the bottom
- Adjust the ringtone, time, and snooze timer, then tap “Save”
NOTE: In the “Alarms & Clock” app you can also switch to other tabs at the top, such as “Timer”, “Stopwatch” and “World Clock”
Change Display Settings:
- Open “Settings”
- Tap “System” > “Display”
- You can turn Off “Automatically adjust display brightness” and set the screen brightness manually
- Optionally, you can enable or disable “Rotation lock”
- Furthermore, under “Rotation lock” you can drag the slider to increase or decrease font size
- Tap “Apply” to save the display settings
- Lastly, you can adjust “Glance screen” (lock screen) by heading down to “Settings” > “Extras” > “Glance screen”
Tips & Tricks to Improve Battery Life
Turn On Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the “Settings” menu
- Tap “System” > “Battery saver”
- Tap the switch associated with “Battery saver” to enable the feature
- For additional options, tap “battery saver settings”
Adjust (Decrease) Screen Timeout Duration:
- Open the “Settings” menu
- Tap “Personalization”
- Go to “Lock screen”
- Tap the “Screen time out after” field and choose a lower timeout value
NOTE: You can also improve battery life by decreasing the screen brightness as detailed above at “Change Display Settings”.
Turn Off App Store Auto-Update:
- Tap the “Store” tile on the Start screen
- Tap “Menu” > “Settings”
- Tap the switch to turn off “Update apps automatically when I’m on Wi-Fi”
Turn Off Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth When Not In Use:
NOTE: You can improve battery life in the long run by turning off the phone’s connectivity options when they are not in use.
- On the Start screen, drag the “Notification” bar down
- Tap the tiles associated with “Bluetooth” and “Wi-Fi” to disable the features
- Go back to the Start screen and access “Settings”
- Tap “Privacy” > “Location” to disable GPS
