Turn On Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Battery
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver

Turn Off Connectivity Features When Unused:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when they are not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. On the home screen, drag the “Status” bar down
  2. Tap the tiles associated with “Bluetooth”, “Wi-Fi”, and “Location” to disable these features
  3. Access the phone’s “Settings” menu
  4. For additional GPS options, tap “Location” > “Mode” and select “Battery saving
  5. To turn off Hotspot, first go back to “Settings
  6. Next, tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  7. Tap the switch to turn off “Tethering & Mobile Hotspot

Use 2G Networks:

NOTE: If you don’t have access to a wall socket or power bank and your phone runs low on battery or you wish to conserve battery life, you can temporarily switch to 2G connectivity to improve battery performance until the next recharge.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type
  4. Tap to use “2G” connectivity

Lower Screen Timeout Duration and Brightness:

  1. Access “Settings
  2. Under “Device”, tap “Display
  3. If necessary, turn off “Adaptive brightness
  4. Tap “Brightness level” and drag the slider to the left to decrease screen luminosity
  5. Return to the “Display” menu and tap “Sleep
  6. Select a lower timeout value, such as “15 seconds” or “30 seconds

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By reducing the amount of data being synced by your accounts / applications, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Access “Settings
  3. Under “Personal”, tap “Accounts
  4. Tap an account type and select the desired account
  5. Clear the check boxes associated with the sync options you want to disable

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party applications can affect battery performance even when you don’t use them, because certain apps run regular background processes. As such, by turning off or removing unused third party apps, you might be able to improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings
  2. Under “Device”, tap “Apps
  3. Access the “Downloaded” tab
  4. Select the desired application
  5. Tap “Disable” / “Force stop” to turn off the app
  6. If you wish to remove the app, tap “Uninstall” > “OK

NOTE: Recent tests have shown that the Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps have a great negative impact on battery life. If possible, it’s recommended to uninstall these apps and use Facebook Lite instead.

Keep the Firmware Updated:

NOTE: Sometimes, software updates can include battery life improvements. As such, it’s recommended to keep your phone up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Access the phone’s “Settings” menu
  2. Scroll down to “System
  3. Tap “About phone
  4. Tap “System updates” and if necessary, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install any available updates
