Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery
  4. Tap “Menu” and turn on “Battery saver

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the “brightness” slider to the left to decrease luminosity
  3. For more options, access “Settings
  4. Under “Device”, tap “Display
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value such as “30 seconds

Turn Off Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By turning off Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS when unused, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” tiles to disable these options
  3. Go to “Settings” for more GPS options
  4. Tap “Location” > “Mode
  5. Select “Battery saving
  6. To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  7. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and then set the switch to OFF to disable the feature

Switch to 2G Connectivity Temporarily:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Go to “Settings
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type
  4. Enable “2G

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps can perform regular background processes, and as such they can affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps
  3. Ensure “All Apps” is selected from the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Tap “Force stop” to turn off the app
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall

NOTE: You can also uninstall applications by opening the apps drawer, and dragging & dropping the desired app shortcut on top of the “Uninstall” section at the top.

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your accounts / apps to minimize sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Tap “Accounts” under “Personal
  4. Select an account and turn the available / desired sync options On or Off

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:

  1. First open “Settings
  2. Then scroll to and tap “About phone
  3. Tap “System updates
  4. Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update(s). NOTE: The update process will require a reboot
