Turn On Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery
  4. Tap “Menu
  5. Turn on “Battery saver

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Hotspot when unused, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” tiles to disable these features
  3. For more GPS options, go to “Settings” and tap “Location
  4. Then tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving
  5. Return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch to OFF to disable Wi-Fi Hotspot

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  3. Tap “Mobile networks
  4. Go to “Preferred network type
  5. Select “2G

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider to the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Go to “Settings” for more options
  4. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display
  5. Optionally you can enable or disable “Adaptive brightness
  6. To reduce timeout duration, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your apps / accounts to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Personal
  3. Tap “Accounts
  4. Select an account to change its sync settings

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes and thus they can affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings
  2. Tap “Apps” under “Device
  3. Make sure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired application
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force stop
  6. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall

NOTE: You can also remove applications from your phone by opening the apps drawer and dragging & dropping the respective app’s shortcut over the “Uninstall” section at the top.

Keep the Software Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life so it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date. To check for updates:

  1. Access “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone
  3. Tap “System updates
  4. Verify if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply any available updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least on reboot)
