Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver

Turn Off Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when they are not in use, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” tiles to disable these features
  3. For GPS options, first go to “Settings
  4. Go to “Location” and tap “Mode” > “Battery saving
  5. To turn OFF Wi-Fi Hotspot, go back to “Settings
  6. Then tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  7. Disable “Tethering & Mobile hotspot

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & networks
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type
  4. Turn “2G” ON

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Display
  4. Disable “Adaptive brightness” if necessary
  5. Tap “Brightness level” and drag the slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  6. Return to “Display” and tap “Sleep
  7. Select a lower timeout value, such as “15 seconds

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps can perform regular background processes. Thus, they can affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Go to “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps
  3. Access “Downloaded
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Force stop” / “Disable” to disable the app
  5. To remove the application, tap “Uninstall” > “OK” to confirm

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ / apps’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts
  3. Select an account to change its sync settings
  4. Clear the check boxes associated with the sync options you want to disable

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for new software updates:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if a new update is available
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the available update(s). NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot so make sure you save any unsaved work before proceeding
