Enable Batter Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Battery” > “Menu
  4. Enable “Battery saver

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” for additional options
  4. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display
  5. Optionally, you can turn “Adaptive brightness” ON or OFF
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value

Disable Unused Connectivity Options:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” tiles to disable the features
  3. For GPS options, go to “Settings” and tap “Location
  4. Tap “Mode” and select “Battery saving
  5. To disable Hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch OFF

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: if your phone runs low on battery life and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  3. Tap “Mobile networks
  4. Go to “Preferred network type” and enable “2G

Change Sync Settings to Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer and access “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts
  3. Select an account and turn the desired sync options OFF

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party applications perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Apps” and make sure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired application
  5. Tap “Force stop” to disable the app
  6. Tap “Uninstall” to remove the app from the phone

NOTE: Another method for removing an app is to open the apps drawer, and drag & drop the app’s shortcut over the “Uninstall” section at the top.

Keep the OS Up to Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if a new update is available
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update(s). NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
