Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Battery” > “Menu
  4. Enable “Battery saver

Lower Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Display” and if necessary, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness
  4. Drag the brightness slider towards the left side to decrease luminosity
  5. For timeout options, return to “Display” and tap “Sleep
  6. Select a lower timeout value like “15 seconds

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling your phone’s connectivity features when unused –including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS – you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the feature
  3. For GPS options, open “Settings” and access “Location
  4. Then tap “Mode” and select “Battery saving
  5. To disable Hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  6. Disable “Tethering & Mobile Hotspot

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type
  4. Enable “2G

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Personal
  3. Tap “Accounts” and select an account type
  4. Clear the check boxes associated with the sync options you want to disable

Minimize Third party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps can perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps
  3. Swipe to “Downloaded
  4. Select the desired app
  5. To turn the app Off tap “Force Stop” or “Disable
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall” > “OK

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone
  3. Go to “System updates
  4. Verify if a new update is available and if applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
