Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Battery
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver

Turn Off the Phone’s Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and Location (GPS), you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable these features
  3. Next launch “Settings
  4. Scroll to and tap “Location
  5. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving
  6. Return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  7. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch OFF

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  3. Tap “Mobile networks
  4. Go to “Preferred network type” and enable “2G

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the “brightness” slider to the left
  3. Open “Settings” for additional options
  4. Tap “Display” under “Device
  5. Optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” On or Off
  6. Tap “Sleep” for timeout options and select a lower value

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your accounts to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts
  4. Select an account and turn the desired sync options Off

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Apps” and ensure “All Apps” is selected from the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Force Stop” to disable it
  5. Alternatively, tap “Uninstall” to remove the app

NOTE: Another method for removing apps is to open the apps drawer and then drag and drop the app’s shortcut over the “Uninstall” section at the top.

Keep the OS Up to Date:

NOTE: OS Updates can include improvements to battery life and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for OS updates:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if a new update is available
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
