Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery
  3. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings
  4. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness
  6. For timeout settings, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value such as “15 seconds

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling your phone’s connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” (GPS)” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Open “Settings” for additional options
  4. Go to “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving
  5. To disable Hotspot, go back to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  6. Tap “Tethering & mobile hotspot” and disable the feature

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  3. Tap “Preferred networks
  4. Tap “preferred network type” and enable “2G

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Personal
  3. Tap “Accounts
  4. Select the desired account and change the available sync settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Apps” and if necessary, switch to “All Apps
  4. Select the desired app
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force Stop” / “Disable
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life, and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for new updates:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone
  3. Tap “System updates
  4. Check if a new update is available and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
